Our Calling
Kelly’s Calling
While on a mission trip to Honduras in August 2007, Kelly joined a group of friends around the table with Greg and Eva Vaughn, directors of the Good Shepherd Children’s Home. Someone asked the Vaughn’s what skillsets they were seeking in assistant directors. Eva explained how they had been praying for someone that could do maintenance work and take that load off of Greg. Kelly didn’t think much about that statement until she said that they would like for their spouse to have administrative and computer skills. Kelly thought, “WOW that could be Kelly and Trisha Lawrence.” Kelly returned to his room, read his Bible and prayed a simple prayer. He said, “God, I will go if it is your will and if you make it happen.”
In November 2007, Kelly and Trisha attended BMDMI’s annual conference in Alabama with their friends, Rhodes and Marilyn Hester. The Hester’s began to discuss how it would be nice to visit the children’s home on the day after Christmas. That’s when Trisha chimed-in and said that she would also like to go. Kelly knew God was working because Trisha was terrified of flying. Kelly thought, “WOW – God was making it happen.”
Trisha’s Calling
 |
Trisha visited the Good Shepherd Children’s Home (GSCH) in Honduras for the first time on the day after Christmas in 2007. Within 24-hours of arriving in the beautiful Zamorano Valley, Trisha told Kelly that she felt at home and could envision herself living there. It was a few days later that Trisha felt the call to serve @ GSCH. Surrounded by children in the casita, Christ spoke to Trisha through a song entitled, “Supe Que Me Amabas” by Marcela Gandara. Trisha couldn’t understand the Spanish lyrics, but somehow her soul interpreted them. She sensed the presence of the Holy Spirit and she cried in His presence. Upon her return to the U.S., Trisha immediately downloaded the song that she had heard. Her future son-in-law translated the song into English; the title means, “I knew that you loved me.” God spoke to Trisha through a song that she couldn’t understand initially. God asked Kelly and Trisha to go share the love of Jesus Christ with the children and their caregivers at the GSCH. Although the Lawrence’s are just ordinary people, they are abandoning their comfort zone and answering His call.
